I randomly ran across the Canmake Perfect Serum BB Cream on one of my sample hunts on eBay. How could I resist something so cute, pink, and Japanese? And a BB cream, nonetheless. Answer: I couldn’t, and so I purchased some samples.

I had never heard of Canmake, which I discovered is a popular, affordable Japanese drug store brand. I was so excited when I finally got these samples in the mail. And I opened up my package to unveil the smallest sample packets I’ve ever seen. Seriously, these were like half the size of the Korean ones I get. It turns out that the full-size product is also a bit smaller than those I’m used to: roughly 30g.

First things first. I got samples in 02. The wrong-ass shade for me, most obviously. Way too yellowy-orange. It eventually oxidizes okay, providing you don’t slather it on. Hopefully I can try out the lighter shade at some point.

So, aside from the harsh jaundice this product is giving my hand, my face got slightly less yellow. But only slightly less. The first time I applied it I put too much on, and I was gross looking. The second time I applied it very lightly, and it kinda worked out.

This BB cream has medium-high coverage. It’s really medium, but it builds up easily, depending on your need. Just be careful if your skin doesn’t have yellow undertones. :(

It’s not a thick consistency, yet not too runny. It’s not the easiest BB cream to spread, but still, a little goes a long way. And like a lot of Japanese products, this is unscented.

As for oil control… eh. My t-zone started oiling up after 30 minutes. 30 minutes. Really. I’m a powder addict, so it’s nothing I can’t deal with, but come on.

Pros: Lots of great ingredients, good coverage.
Cons: Not so good oil control, not so affordable unless you’re in Asia, where it retails for ~$9 USD. You can find it on Amazon and eBay for around ~$20.

Final Verdict: I might buy this again… in the lighter shade. It’s a decent BB cream, minus the nonexistent oil control for me. Has anyone else tried this? Thoughts?

On a side note, I’m about to start dabbling in cleansing oils. I just ordered DHC Pore Cleansing Oil, DHC Deep Cleansing Oil, and Origins Clean Energy Gentle Cleansing Oil. I’m interested in trying the pink Shu Uemura oil but I figured I’d start with some cheaper options. Anyone have any other recommendations for me?

  1. Thanks for the review, it’s one the most comprehensive and thorough I’ve ever read! xx

  2. hi i just bought this and its really good coverage! yeah its not the easiest to spread but like you said a little does go a long way. i have scars to cover up so im very happy that is so buildable. i live in hk but it wasnt $9 US.. it was about $13. which is still good since its not $20. anyway i actually wanted to leave a message cause i wanted to tell you to definitely try out the pink shu uemura cleansing oil. IT IS AMAZING. nothing else compares. seriously. it is the only one that cleans everything in one go. and btw they recommend using 4 pumps but thats insane!! i think 1-2 pumps is more that enough! i usually do 1 full pump and if i have a bit more eyemake up on i’d put an extra half pump for my eyes and its magic. all the other colors suck. ive used the yellow, purple, green, and i forget. but yeah. get it! well try get a sample size if you can, just in case. but i highly highly highly recommend it. hehe.
