Lately my pores have been a complete mess. I’ve been trying to calm them down by using only Thayers toner and nothing else. That means no extracting, pore strips, serums, astringents, or lotions. They’re still so angry though. What did I ever do to you, pores? Well, I’m sorry.
Needless to say, when Kathy from Léonie Skincare contacted me about reviewing their blackhead mask, I jumped at the opportunity. I’ve been nice for far too long. Pores, get ready. It’s time.

I don’t normally throw in videos on my blog posts, but this was just really cute. And I like cute.
As you can see, this is black. And awesome. Last year I did a review on the Daiso Nose Pack, which is the most similar product I can think of. I wasn’t a huge fan of that product, however–despite being super cheap, it smelled awful (GLUE) and wasn’t very gentle on my skin. I also reviewed Nesura Charcoal Pore Strips, which were excitingly black, and pretty much acted like your typical pore strip, but smelled like a smoker’s hotel room. The Blackhead Removing Peel-off Mask by Léonie? It’s like combining the two but making it actually smell good. And that makes me very happy, since it’s gonna be mostly on my nose. Plus, it’s super gentle, making it great for those with sensitive skin.
This is a thick opaque goop. You don’t need much, even a thin layer will do the job. My pores are intense though, so I like to put on a little extra because they tend to breathe through it. Once it’s applied, you sit and hang out for 15 minutes, then slowly peel the dried mask off. The great part about it’s blackness is that you can see all the nasty sebum and stuff that’s extracted from your pores. And come on, that’s the best thing ever, right?
Also, on the last photo you can see that it had a slight brightening effect on my skin. It’s not long-lasting–it was back to normal the next day, but if you want a quick pick-me-up for your face before a hot night out, this is for you.
I can’t get over how cool and black it is. My nose and chin are my only trouble areas, and I’m kind of thankful for that, because otherwise I might head on over into blackface territory, and that’s just not the kind of girl I am. But still, it’s really cool and black.
So, did it work? Better than the Daiso mask. It grabbed the tiniest little pockets of sebum from my tiniest pores. It peeled off easily, only leaving a slight residue that washes right off. On that note, this will also wash out of clothing if you spill it. No stains!
I have some really stubborn blackheads that are deep under the skin who don’t want to come out. I didn’t really expect them to. However, I’m wondering if using this regularly would help bring them to the surface. It helped surface a blemish on my chin I’d been eagerly anticipating, so there’s that.
Pros: Nice scent, black!!!!!, removes sebum and blackheads from the tiniest of pores, brightens skin.
Cons: Slightly on the more expensive side (especially compared to Daiso), but has better quality.
Final Verdict: You can currently buy this direct from Amazon for $28 USD/100ml… or if you act really fast, you have until August 4th to get it for $17!
